Welcome, 2022! A new year starts and it is a good opportunity to re-evaluate plans, set new goals and renovate hope for a new cycle. 

We want to reinforce to the care industry our availability to help you make improvements and achieve better outcomes in 2022.

Meet our ionMy team! Behind our robust and comprehensive platform, there is a team that makes that happen. :-) 

Today, we present to you Karina Tasha, who has been working with ionMy for the past 10 years. Karina is our technical and development consulting, the
go-to person for any IT related questions and queries.

1 - How long have you been working with ionMy?

Since 2011. So that’s roughly 10 years. Phew!

2 - Brief description of your role

I’m the tech lead and software developer of ionMy. I’m the go-to person for any IT related questions and queries.

3- What do you love the most about working with ionMy?

We have a very solid team which makes work more enjoyable.

4- Your favourite ionMy feature?

Our action email feature is where we can reply to an action email by replying to the email itself and the reply will be posted in the action record in ionMy. Pretty neat!

The SSO feature is cool too. It feels satisfying when the SSO is working after I set it up for the first time.

5 - Your favourite person/ or company to follow?

I like following memes or funny accounts. Laughing is the best medicine for sure!

 

AWS SERVER MIGRATION

The AWS server migration was successfully completed on the 25th of January as scheduled.

Benefits of moving to AWS: 

Our strategy of moving from Azure to AWS is to deliver a far more robust and scalable environment for the ionMy application to grow. Some of the immediate benefits that you will see include:

  • 2 x application servers running ionMy with the ability to automatically scale up to 3+ servers should the system load peak and automatically scale back to 2 when the load drops.  This is generally referred to as ‘auto-scaling’.

  • 2 x database servers in a High Availability configuration. This means your data will be synched to a secondary server in real-time. Should a disaster strike the primary server, we will be able to switch to the second server without any loss of data.

  • Our current Recovery Point Objective (RPO) is 24 hours ie if the database needs to be restored from backup, you could lose up to 24 hours of data as backups are only run nightly.  In the new AWS environment, the RPO reduces to less than 5 minutes as the database is being kept in sync on a second Server.

  • We have also tightened the security posture of your ionMy environment to ensure that only countries that need to be enabled for access are allowed past our initial firewall.

  • There are many other features added such as application performance monitoring etc.

  • Reform to in-home aged care: In response to the final report of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety (the Royal Commission), the Australian Government will create a single Support at Home Program.

    This is replacing the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), the Home Care Packages (HCP) Program, Short-Term Restorative Care Programme (STRC), and residential respite programs.

    This program will be developed in consultation with senior Australians and community stakeholders. For more information, click here.
